Macy's has strong partnerships with the United Negro College Fund, the
Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund and the Hispanic
Scholarship Fund, as part of our focus on programs for youth and education.
Community Involvement in Education
Macy's supports education for all ages with community volunteers from our
Partners in Time employee volunteer program, cause-related marketing such
as our multi-million dollar Reading is Fundamental partnership, and
generous grants from the Macy's Foundation.
Last year, Macy's, Inc. employees gave more than 30,000 hours of community
service hours for educational projects and school partnership events. Our
employees also help to drive our charitable giving through Macy's Matching
Gifts program: A total of $8 million through both individual and corporate
donations, a large percentage of which support schools. And there's also
our Earning for Learning grants-for-schools program that has provided
nearly $1 million to schools nationwide through tutoring and mentoring.
While educational support is high, Macy's Foundation, its employees and customers also support dozens of community causes through thousands of nonprofit organizations. Macy's believes that community involvement is the right thing to do – we're proud of our heritage of giving. Through all of our efforts in 2008 – company, Foundation, employees and customers – more than $76.6 million was raised for charities across the nation.
